    Fine pair of calligraphic profile portraits that are watercolor and ink on paper and signed and dated 1791 by Jean-Joseph Bernard a French master writer who lived between 1740 and 1809.

    Jean-Joseph Bernard was a master writer of French 18th century, born in 1740 at Luneville, and died at Saint-Cloud in 1809.

    Bernard was renowned for creating such profiles of aristocratic French personages in this period. Provenance: W. Russell Button, Chicago, Illinois; Property of a Southern Gentleman, Atlanta, Georgia.
